Different Possibilities With Hydroseeding

hydro-seeding for yardWhen you opt for professionals to hydroseed your property, you will be able to choose from a variety of different options and different seed choices. And you can mix and match between different seeds for the same property, which makes planning easier. Perhaps you want a beautiful, flourishing front-yard, but the back yard is much shadier. Opting for two different types of hydroseeding allows for better growth. And if you have an area that is hard to mow, certain seeds live better in those areas. Also, while planning for hydroseeding, it is important to take into account the environment and the climate, because certain seeds grow better in certain climates.

When hydroseeding, it is also possible to have different variations of the hydroseed mixture, like different fertilizers. The hydroseeding experts at Long Island Elite Landscaping can help you come to a safe and satisfying conclusion.

The Importance of Mulch When Hydroseeding

Mulch is important when it comes to hydroseeding, because it is the ingredient that makes hydroseeding possible. Wet mulch is heavier than seed and water and allows for the mixture to spray farther and more efficiently in the process. The use of mulch aids in the growth process, too. Once the mulch lands on the soil, it will form a protective barrier over the seeds and hold them in place. Mulch also protects against the environment and ensures that they grow properly despite adverse conditions. Lastly, mulch promotes seed germination for excellent growth. Hydroseeding is also a common element for erosion control, which is another landscaping service we provide our clients.

Some common types of mulch include paper mulch, wood fiber mulch, and blended mulch. We will help you decide on the best route possible when taking into consideration your environment. Different mulches come in at different price points, which is another factor we will discuss with you before moving forward with the hydroseeding. The most expensive of the aforementioned mulch types is the wood fiber mulch. That is because it is the most effective type of mulch, since it is the heaviest and most protective of the seeds. However, if that is out of your price range, then blended mulch is a good choice. Blended mulch is a combination of wood fiber and paper with the breakdown typically being 70% wood and 30% paper. It is more affordable than wood fiber mulch, but not as effective or as protective. Last, and definitely least from this trio is paper mulch, which is generally not recommended for projects unless as a last resort.

Hydroseeding vs Hydromulching

In many instances, hydroseeding and hydromulching are terms used synonymously, which is wrong. Hydroseeding is something that consists of a slurry of mulch, seed, fertilizers and water which has the goal of providing the perfect seed, fertilizer, and mulch for grass seed to grow. Whereas hydromulch does not contain any seeds and consists of a mulch and tackifier and overall can consist of a variety of different materials. Higher quality hydromulch consists of 100% wood fibers, which are taken from wood chips. Lower quality hydromulch consists of a blend of cellulose and wood fibers.

The intent of each practice is different too. In general, hydromulching is simply designed to provide a temporary barrier over bare earth to control erosion. Whereas hydroseeding has the intention of creating vegetation that will ultimately provide for an attractive ground cover, while also controlling erosion. This holds especially true for slopes or areas that have been damaged by disturbances, like wildfires or construction. And is perfect to create ground cover for residential yards, too.
